Our therapeutic groups are designed to engage patients in their treatment by teaching safe and effective coping skills and restoring self-care and respect. Our highly qualified therapists are attentive to the emotional pain that brings individual’s into treatment and are dedicated to reducing that pain to improve their overall quality of life.

Group Therapy Classes
Relapse Prevention Group
The focus of this group type is sobriety management and relapse prevention. Group members are encouraged to examine the ways substance abuse has adversely effected their lives. Group members are also directed to share and explore methods and strategies for remaining sober in their personal setting. Materials used include: The Addiction Recovery Skills Workbook by Suzette Glasner-Edwards PhD, Twelve steps of Addu, and the SMART recovery workbook
12 -Step Recovery Group
The 12-Step Recovery group at Sondercare is based on the principle of addictive behaviors and patterns. These steps can be applied to many different areas of our lives such as shopping, eating, substance use, gambling, anything that makes your life powerless and it feels unmanageable. During this group members will learn about the 5 elements of addiction and learn skills to maintain abstinence from addictive patterns and behaviors.
Grief and Loss Group
Grief connected to a loss is not easy to heal from. Grief and Loss Group takes a deep dive into your loss to assist in the healing process. The only thing constant with grief is change. The group provides therapeutic support and psychoeducation about the complexities of grief to assist each member with vulnerability. Crabs have survived thousands of years, shifting and moving in sand. Be like the crab! Join us in the grief group to shift in the sands of grief to rediscover your relationship with the person you have lost.
OCD Therapy Group
This group utilizes the main components outlined in the “The ACT Workbook for OCD,” combining evidence-based acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with exposure and response prevention therapy (EPR). In this group members will learn what type of OCD they suffer from and the underlying mechanisms of their OCD. Members will also move through triggered incidents while staying present and connected to their values, and learn to be more aware and flexible, tolerate uncertainty and community to behaviors that will allow for a full, rewarding life.
Woman's Trauma Group
The Women’s Trauma Group offered by Sondercare addresses the connection between violence, abuse, and trauma, the process of trauma and common reactions, understanding emotions, authentic expression of feelings, and healing from trauma through the use of selfsoothing and grounding techniques. Group objectives include: learning more about what trauma is and how it affects the lives of women, exploring how trauma and abuse has personally affected each group participant, recognizing and addressing triggers, and the development of coping skills to focus on safety.
Men's Trauma Group
The Men's Trauma Group utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and provides support and healing for men who have experienced trauma. This group offers a safe and empathetic environment where participants can explore their trauma-related challenges, build resilience, and develop effective coping skills. Through DBT, participants learn mindfulness techniques to increase self-awareness, distress tolerance skills to manage intense emotions, emotion regulation strategies to navigate triggers, and interpersonal effectiveness skills to improve relationships. Through group discussions, exercises, and validation, the Men's Trauma Group helps individuals cultivate emotional well-being, build healthy coping mechanisms, and foster a sense of empowerment in their lives.
Couples' EFT Group
The Couples Support Group, utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), empowers couples to cultivate a stronger emotional connection, heal relationship wounds, and create a foundation of love and support for lasting relationship growth. This group offers a safe and collaborative space where couples can explore and address underlying patterns of interaction that may be causing distress or disconnection. Couples learn to identify and express their deeper emotional needs, increase understanding and empathy towards each other, and create secure attachment bonds. Through experiential exercises and guided discussions, participants develop effective communication skills, navigate conflicts, and foster a more secure and satisfying relationship.
Emotional Regulation Group
The Emotional Regulation Support Group is rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that provides individuals with valuable tools and strategies to regulate their emotions effectively. This group offers a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn and practice mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Through the guidance of trained therapists experienced in DBT, individuals develop a deeper understanding of their emotions, learn to manage intense feelings, and cultivate healthier coping mechanisms. The Emotional Regulation Support Group empowers participants to navigate life's challenges with increased emotional resilience, fostering personal growth, and enhancing overall well-being.
Parenting Group
The focus of this group is to learn parenting skills to form a healthy relationship between parents and children. Parents are encouraged to examine ways to improve their parenting skills as their child develops. Topics covered include parenting and attachment styles, holistic discipline, emotional regulation, co-parenting, and establishing healthy boundaries between parent and child. Materials used include, “The Art of Parenting Workbook,” by K.C. Dreisbach, LMFT and “Parenting with Love and Logic,” by Foster Cline, MD, and Jim Fay.
Healthy Relationships Group
The Healthy Relationships Therapy Group incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is designed to empower individuals in cultivating and sustaining healthy, fulfilling relationships. Through the utilization of mindfulness, values clarification, cognitive defusion, communication skills, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and commitment to action, participants engage in a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages selfreflection, personal growth, and effective relationship building. By embracing acceptance of thoughts and emotions and committing to values-aligned actions, individuals acquire practical tools to navigate relationship challenges, foster deeper connections, and experience greater satisfaction in their interpersonal lives.
Hoarding Group
The Hoarding Group offered by Sondercare addresses the four factors most common in hoarding behaviors consisting of: decision-making, intense emotions, unhelpful thinking, and motivation. Group objectives include: discovering the factors that contribute to hoarding behaviors, the use of evidence-based skills derived from the CBT model, and the application of those skills on a consistent basis to address chronic hoarding behaviors. Finally, this group will incorporate the use for homework assignments, including SMART goals, in order to ensure that participants are provided with motivation, direction, and a sense of personal empowerment upon group completion.
Anger Management Group
The Anger Management group at Sondercare uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals effectively manage and regulate their anger. This group provides a safe and nonjudgmental space where participants can learn practical strategies to identify triggers, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Through the guidance of trained therapists experienced in CBT, participants gain insights into their anger responses and acquire tools to respond more adaptively, improve communication, and build healthier relationships. The Anger Management Support Group empowers individuals to enhance emotional regulation, reduce harmful expressions of anger, and cultivate a greater sense of control and well-being in their lives
